The Parable of the Persistent Widow
We often forget those who are marginalized and the underprivileged of our societies. The foreigners, those starting out in our countries, the fatherless, the widows, single parents, the elderly, the lonely, single people, physically and mentally challenged people and those with are inept or bizarre. These are people who struggle with integrating within our societies. Often these people do not talk like us or dress like us, they do not know the ways of the culture to the point as to make them stand out for their advantage, rather than the opposite, they are easily targeted and singled out. They stand out for different reasons and more so that they are easily ridiculed. I remember growing up in my young years, there was a young girl who was physically deformed, we did not know her condition as this was the seventies, we did not understand why she looked very different from from the rest of us girls. She had six fingers. One day in the schoolyard, a group had formed around her and one kid asked her to hold out her hand. And she did, she did not hide her six fingers. The child who asked her to hold out her hand wanted to expose the child with the six fingers. I remember thinking -how must this child feel like- just like it was yesterday. When we are different we must be strong and bold, because we are going to eat it. I mean that when we are different people, the majority will attack us in most cases. We need the education, support, and the strength and the knowledge to confront our abusers, those who are bullies and those who are going to prey on us. Parents when you have a unique child this child needs social tools to deal with the beasts of society. Those who prey on our children's weaknesses. We do not understand our own weaknesses, why in the world prey on others weaknesses. We all are dealing with stuff. No one has the right to bully us in any manner or fashion. But this is an education, we don't automatically know that we can and should stand up to those who are disrespecting us, or hurting us, or abusing us. What makes all this the more confusing to a young person or anyone of any age is that when the person we trust, like or are in a close relationship with such as our mother or father and it is an abusive relationship, we can become very confused as too what to do. We cannot make sense of the situation so we go into an abyss of contemplation and pondering. When we are being mistreated and we do not have the tools or education, or understanding to respond or act in our defense this is where the trouble starts. This continually happens to all of us because there are people out there who are preying on each other., therefore parents, anyone, treat people fairly. Teach others, children, the elderly those who are vulnerable, the widow, the emigrant, life skills to help them, teach a person who is gay or lesbian tools to protect themselves from abuse and attack. Gay and lesbian people are the minority of our societies, treat them with respect, and do not judge. Mind your own business. Every person is born free under the constitution even gay people. Be kind, show proper respect to everyone.
Matthew 7: 1 "Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the same measure you use you will; it will be measured back to you."
Why do I say these things so that you can be wise? The elderly are often victimized, why because they are vulnerable. They are lonely or they are weak and need help and are so desperate they are more prompt to trust easily because they are in need. Do not hurt people who you might even think slightly are in need of. People in need like the Persistent Widow, are alone with no helper or friends. they are struggling, alone. Which makes you prey. Some are deficient in attaining for themselves what makes for a healthy and prosperous and happy life. They are not so good at helping themselves. Give and help. Stay humble and serve others.
In Ottawa where I come from it is a known fact that people do not help each other and even are suspicious of those who ask to many questions or seek help, especially if you work in the government. Why? What is the purpose of this? This is wrong and unconstitutional. Let's go back to loving our neighbor as ourselves.
When we see or are experiencing an injustice pray to God for justice and intervention and when someone cannot defend themselves be their mouthpiece.
Psalm 82:3 "Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy; Free them from the hand of the wicked.
People ought always to pray and not lose heart especially when there is a clear issue of injustice. Too many times we fight or seek justice alone with no support to come to our aid. We have clearly been wronged and we need protection, strength and the right advice to move forward. Many times we do not have the money to get justice. Or those who require justice are against us or we cannot get to. Well, there is someone greater and better than money and justice put together. There is first God who is just a prayer away, who will look into the matter and get back to you with a good report which is perfect for you. Sometimes in the wait is a perfect reply. Acting hastily only brings on more problems. Luke 18:1
There was a widow who approached a judge who did not regard man nor fear God and she begged him for justice in her matter. Because the judge did not want to be bothered by her, he gave her what she requested simply to get rid of her pestering attitude. Not that he was necessarily concerned with her situation. God is saying that whatever request you bring up to the throne, He wants us to be persistent about our needs, and in due time God will attend to the matter. Any injustice affected, He personally looks into the matter to help us. Now that is what you call service and without price. Praise God!. Try it and call God on it.
